What's new with MUSE RPG, Worlds, and the character sheet app.

Welcome! You probably clicked that link wondering “what’s this MUSE RPG thing?”. Here’s the short version: MUSE RPG, is a TTRPG framework, not an engine or conventional set of rules. It works well out of the box for one-shots and smaller adventures, but is designed for creatives to layer their own worlds onto.

Our goal is to provide the essentials, then get out of the way to let your table’s roleplay and story flourish.

Licensed Creative Commons, MUSE RPG skips the need for open gaming licenses or fees. Casual GMs and commercial developers alike are free to build and sell their own games, supported by rules designed to be hacked and retooled.

We’ve got a few things to share today, so if you’re curious about MUSE, don’t let us hold you up; the framework’s ready for you to dig into here.

Worlds

As mentioned, MUSE RPG was built to power external fictions. Traditional setting and adventure books could serve that capacity, sure, but we’ve found that a living, breathing world simply works better.

For the past few years we’ve labored quietly, and today, we’re ready (at long, long last) to talk about WORLDS.

Worlds are massive collaborative projects that use MUSE as a spine. Akin to SCP, these sibling wikis are constantly expanding, covering everything from lore and in-universe stories to monsters, items, artwork, poetry, music, and more.

If you’ve ever wanted to shape a world rather than homebrew to fix the parts of an adventure you don’t like, consider this an invite to play in the sandbox(es) we’ve built.

Each World keeps its own Creative Commons license, and anyone can submit contributions. As long as they fit the canon and logic of the setting, they’re bound to become part of the shared narrative.

We’ve played in each of these worlds for years, and we’ll keep playing in them long after launch. No matter which world you land in, expect regular new content and support.

The first of these worlds, ILHDEINIA, launches next fall. If you’re itching to get in early, we’re opening the door to interested contributors next spring.

More worlds are coming in the years ahead, and you can read more about them here, but if Ilhdeinia’s caught your eye, you can get involved on Fluxer, or follow the project on Bluesky, Mastodon, and Reddit.

Site & App

To support these Worlds and the MUSE RPG Framework as a whole, our character sheet app has been improved upon, and is now in v4 of our open Alpha. We’ve been working on this app for nearly three years now, and couldn’t be happier with the state its in (despite the bugs that just won’t seem to squash, try as we might).

If you’re planning to bring MUSE to your table, our Character Sheet App provides the easiest way to play.

What’s more, our website has been completely redesigned from the ground up for ease of use as well as utility. If you haven’t already, you can visit us to see more.

SPREAD THE WORD

MUSE has never had a marketing budget. Every person who’s found us so far did it through word of mouth. That’s how we like it, and thus far, it’s worked.

You’ll notice we’re not on Twitter/X. That’s for the obvious reasons. We’re also staying off Meta’s platforms, and that one’s personal. The data center they’re building in our town is on track to kill it. We’re not interested in helping build an audience on the platform of a company doing that to the place we live.

So we’re asking you directly: Tell someone about MUSE RPG. Post about Ilhdeinia. Bring it up at your next session. If you run a podcast, a blog, a YouTube channel, or even just a group chat with your table, we’d love for you to mention us.

We built this framework to be freely given and shared. If you can, please help us get it into more hands.

That’s where things stand today. There’s more we can’t wait to talk about, and we’re aiming to put out regular updates in the months ahead. For now, thanks for reading this far.

We can’t wait to see you at our table.
